Busy Beading?

| I like beads. I often find myself lost in the bead aisle at the craft store—scheming different color, shape, size, and texture combinations. And now, I'm finding myself fascinated by polymer clay beads. Sort of flirting with the concept of blending all the colors and creating cool shapes. I like the idea of making my own beads…
BUT…Problem is, I've always been completely intimidated by polymer clay. There are ovens and pasta machines involved. You have to condition the clay, extrude it, enhance it, make canes out of it. The whole process just simply sounded like way too much effort. (Okay. Yes, it's important to expend an effort for our art, but if I stop and recognize reality, I have to admit that I'm really too busy to even make pasta with my pasta machine.)
But, here I am, seriously thinking about digging that pasta machine out of the back of the cabinet and making a run to the craft store, thanks to Becky Meverden's new book, #4304 Beginner's Guide to Creating with Clay. She makes it all sound so easy by explaining the different types of clay, the tools you need, and all the basics in a step-by-step format accompanied by great pictures. She even includes 16 jewelry, gift, and home décor projects—all perfect for beginners like me.
You know, I think I could do this. I'll start this weekend—somewhere in between cooking, coffee drinking, doing laundry, washing dishes (my eldest child, aka—the dishwasher, dropped a case of soda on her foot and is unavailable for drudgery), grocery shopping, vacuuming, driving in circles with teenagers, reading, crocheting, star-themed ATC making, Northern Exposure DVD viewing (I got some of them for my anniversary!), learning to sew, bird watching, cat herding, daffodil picking, collard green planting, communicating with the love-of-my-life…Wish me luck!
