Lately, I seem to be obsessed with pillows. I didn't write about it, but I just finished ripping open three fabric placemats and stuffing them with batting to create new pillows for our breakfast nook. A tapestry pillow is in the works—I need it to hide the rip in the seat of my office chair. And I'm still searching for just the right fabric to use on my yo-yo pillow.
But I'm also contemplating the Cottage Rose Pillow from #4408 Mary Engelbreit's The Art of Embroidery. Check out the picture. How cool is that? It's done with stem stitch on natural linen, and it would go beautifully in my living room.
Embroidery sure has come a long way from my mama's crewel samplers and the cute denim shirts that I embellished with peace signs and smiley faces. And we're worlds beyond Dr. Hook's freaky ole lady Katy's embroidering on his jeans. It's the same basic stitches—but used in a whole new style.
I could easily get hooked on embroidery again with some of the designs in Mary's book. I love the clean lines of the projects. They're so simple that they shouldn't actually take forever to finish. This book also introduces a new technique that saves on stitching time by using Prismacolor® Premier permanent markers to add color to the design before the stitching starts.
You know, I kind of like the Four-Square Pillow that's on the front cover, too, but you'll have to go to www.theleisureboutique.com to see what that looks like. Hook yourself up with The Art of Embroidery. You'll like it!
