What's with all the yo-yos? I didn't even think I liked yo-yos. Do you like yo-yos? Are you seeing them everywhere like I am? And I don't mean the kid's toy that you play walk the dog with, or the guy that cut you off in traffic. I mean yo-yos made with fabric.

The yo-yos I'm talking about are the ones you make by cutting out a circle of fabric, turning the fabric edge ¼" to the wrong side, and working a running stitch around the edge. Then, you pull the thread tight and tie a knot, and you've got a yo-yo.

My original dislike of yo-yos links back to being forced to make an incredible number of the things and form them into a tremendously ugly wreath as part of my eldest child's homework. This was not a pleasant bonding experience for either of us, and I don't think we got a good grade…

Anyway, I'm finding myself tempted to attempt yo-yos again—particularly by the above-pictured pillow. I think I could make nine yo-yos out of some fabulous fabric without losing my mind. (And let me digress a minute. The pillow is from #4426 TotStuff by Linda Lum DeBono. This book is a must have if you find yourself sewing for children, and you're tired of the traditional pink and blue color scheme. It's filled with 11 easy-to-make designs in upbeat, urban hues—all inspired by the Japanese fashions that have other bloggers raving.)

For more yo-yo designs, check out #4332 iQuilt: No Holds Barred Designers’ Mix. It features a yo-yo belt, clutch, and quilt (called the Yo! Quilt)—also by Linda.

I like the word yo-yo. Yo-yo, yo-yo, yo-yo…It's fun.
