Feeling somewhat like a gerbil that just fell off it's wheel after driving children in circles over the course of a three-day weekend, I attempted to return to work this morning, but…

The clock on the coffee maker has ceased to function. Consequently, autobrew doesn't work either, so no coffee aroma to gently lure me out of bed.

The cat bit me. I have evidently displeased him in some manner. I fed him, watered him, petted him, spoke to him…and still he leaps at me like a lion taking down a gazelle. I even filled up his bird feeders.

The microwave wouldn't turn off. I closed the door, and it turned on all by itself and wouldn't turn off. I punched buttons, opened the door, and, finally, unplugged it…the love-of-my-life laughed and left. (It was working just fine by dinner time.)

The keyless remote for my car doesn't work anymore. Even with a new battery—nothing. The guy at Radio Shack was amused, especially when the oldest child looked at me and asked, "How do you unlock the car without it?" She's never actually unlocked a car with a key.

And my brain…I started out for the bank—intent on arriving before they locked the lobby doors. Next thing I knew, I was in the Wal-Mart parking lot. How did that happen? I found my way through graduate school. You'd think I could find my way to the bank.

Now, we've finished dinner. I set out leftovers from the three days of circle driving—leftover soup, leftover chicken and rice, and leftover Mexican. I'm the only one that ate any of it. My beloved family members turned up their noses in culinary disdain and dined on macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, and scrambled eggs.

Even my crocheted penguin's out to get me. I've been trying to give him wings, but the pattern (not from Leisure Arts) doesn't make sense. To be honest, I must admit that it may not be the pattern's fault at all. It is, in fact, more likely to be user error.
