Bird Brained

I promise that I'll eventually get over this nature thing I've got going on, but currently, I've still got birds on the brain. It's the day after Thanksgiving, and I'm sitting here staring at those outside birds again. They're seriously taking a bite out of my weekly grocery budget by emptying the bird feeders on a daily basis. The squirrels aren't helping the situation either, but I don't want any of them to go away. Got any suggestions?

One friend insisted that I must create a bird tree filled with a whole birdy buffet:

Just pick a tree in your yard that you can see from a window. Evergreens are a good choice. Decorate your tree with bird-approved edibles, and you end up with sort of a Christmas tree for the birds. Hang dried ears of corn complete with husks, whole sunflower heads, grape clusters, and/or rice cakes on the tree. Still need more ornaments? Combine peanut butter with cornmeal and smear it on pinecones. Make garland by stringing cranberries and popcorn. Other bird gourmet recipes are available on the Internet.

Hope the fourteen-year-old child will help me with this project. I just can’t see myself stringing cranberries. But would this Bird Tree really save me any money in the long run? What do you think?
